Bullying ReportSharon WhiteUniversity of PhoenixBSHS325Mary CarlisleAugust 18, 2017Bullying ReportWhen I hear the word bullying a picture comes to my mind of a few kids on a school yard torturing another child or the big boy/little boy fight in the hall. But bullying has far more levels than the playground we are not talking about the little boy pulling your daughter ponytail. I am referring to the vicious attacks that children, adolescents, and even adults oppose on their peers. Attacks that last a lifetime which causes emotional scars that are sometimes impossible to heal. During this group, we will discuss:The dangers of bullyingThe behavior of bullyingWhy bullying is an issue to study in human developmentThe three components (types) of bullying behaviorI will explain how gender and sexual orientation influence styles of bullying and how this all affects the family and self-esteem. Bullying is a serious issue at no time should it be viewed as cute or they’re just playing. What is bullying behavior: Bullying is when one person or group of people make another person feel uncomfortable and/or threatened. By using power, abuse, or control making a person feel weak and helpless. According to Wang and Iannotti (2012), “bullying is defined as an intentional and repeated behavior, which involves an imbalance of power between the victim and bully”(p.3)Why is bullying an issue in the study of human development: emotional and behavioral problems are the scars of bullyingDepression Feelings of guiltShyness Low self-concept AnxietyThese are the issues that are experienced by both the victim and the bully. This is why bullying is an issue in the study of human development it affects both sides. There are rooted issues within bullying that are connected to ones environment and up bring. Digging to root will give us the answers for healing. Without healing a bully cannot function effectively in society and the issues become a lifelong problem. The three components or types of bullying are:Physical = hitting, kicking or any form of violence toward another personVerbal = name calling, teasing, and verbal threatsRelational Bullying = social isolation, gossiping and spreading rumors“Victims of bullying can suffer from various health problems and poor social adjustment (Rigby,1996).”The role gender plays in bullying: According to Wang and Iannotti (2012) “boys are more involved in physical and verbal bullying, whereas girls are more likely to be involved in relational bullying.”    I want to step outside the box and not put all the focus on the victim but the perp, why is this person torturing and tormenting another, what could possibly be going on inside their household and inside their self. Bullying reaches past the playground and the victims are scarred for life. Bullying is a two-way sword leaving everyone affected with wounds created out of dysfunction, chaos, confusion, shame, and guilt. Unfortunately, if this behavior does not get addressed the target could easily become a bully in later years. Bullying is created behavior that can be corrected and healing is possible. The behavior must be viewed as a problem parents, teachers, and counselors have to attack this issue in order to destroy it.
