David McCullough is a historian who gave a speech on the topic, “American History and Americas Future.” He is from the present time, which is full of ignorant people who are always crying about violation of rights without actually knowing the rights and stipulations. He is also from a country which is has always been known for its freedom and a just legal system. He is surrounded by a society that has no idea that an education is a privilege that people in other countries sacrifice for.
McCullough is a very well-educated person who is very well known in this present society. He has written many historical adventure books. In fact, he has received the Pulitzer Prize twice and also won other distinguished awards for his books. He has the knowledge of the United States history and other facts that ordinary people do not know.
In this speech, he is speaking from the point of view of a historian, which is great because he is speaking from his natural point of view. He talks about the increasing issue of the populace of United States who are ignorant of the past. He says that there are people who do not the past, but are aimlessly planning for the future. As he says, how can we plant something that has no root?
He also addressed the issue that history makes the people of the present who they are. He also urges history teachers and parents alike to make history fun and enjoyable for children and future adults of America. He makes a point that learning history should be fun and taught so that kids will want to learn about the past.
