Summary
Statement
As a member of Devry Online Student Community, I am proposing that we offer a Ski and Snowboarding trip. The three day activity will help bring local students from the Illinois Campuses and Online Community together for mingle and networking.
Reason/
Background
As a member of the online student community our chance to meet and participate in school activities are limited. This trip would allow local online students to meet and bring us together with students from the traditional Devry Campuses in Illinois. Given the time of year and the weather in the Midwest a skiing and snowboarding trip would attract the more outgoing and outdoor minded student. The evening network event will allow the attendees to learn how to effectively network and what information will be useful.
Details:
Located Wausau, Wisconsin Granite Peak Park is a four and a half hour drive from downtown Chicago. The resort is known for having 72 ski runs of various difficulties and the 700-foot Granite Peak Mountain (Editorial, 2009). The resort was rated in the top three snowboarding parks in 2011 by Trans World Snowboarding. “The resort brings six parks to the table, with more than fifteen jumps” (The Snowboarders, 2010).
To provide our transportation I have chosen The Regal Coach Lines of Chicago. They are local company located at 825 East 99th St. Suite 120 in Chicago, Illinois. Students have a choice of skiing and snowmobiling. Free shuttles are available to and from the hotel and the parks from 7 am until 10pm daily.
On day one of the trip, we have arranged for a Dayle Beyers to facilitate an event entitled “Effective Networking”. The event takes place at 6:30 until 8:30 pm in the Howard Johnson Inn and Conference Center. Ms. Beyer will present techniques on how to effectively network and how to follow-up with new members of your network.
On day two the participants will have a free day to enjoy themselves and practice their new skills.
