The article I will be responding to is an article that was published by the “New York Times” named “Justice Advance in America”. Though the state is saving millions of dollars by removing the death penalty is money coming at the price of justice. By letting certain murders live after they takes ones life is brutal and they should be punished. Reasons for believing that the death penalty should still be allowed in the state of Illinois is to give the victims family a sense of justice and at least a sense that the government is reforming its system to have a little less flaws.
The editors argue that the death penalty system is flawed, saying that it can lead to wrongful deaths and the wrong people dying and that they need a better solution for the problem. I agree with the system being flawed and needs better solutions, but isnt the regular justice system flawed with corrupt police officers, pay to play politics as well as the wrong people getting charged with crimes they dont commit? Why not get rid of them as well.
I agree with the system being flawed and needs better solutions but isnt the regular justice system flawed with corruption, pay to play politics, and officers who abuse their authoritative power and charge the wrong people with crimes they didnt commit. Why not just get a better solution for them all.
If the Illinois governor personally favors the death penalty the state should just make a more reformed approach to the death penalty instead of getting rid of it. The editors in this article says that the system is to flawed but we all are humans and people make mistakes which means that the machines we make arent always going to be solid and flawless.
