Introduction to Law Enforcement
UNIT 1 INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT INDIVIDUAL PROJECT The questions are asked about no quality is more indispensable to a policeman than a perfect command of temper; a quiet, determined manner has more effects than violet action, and are the securing and training of proper persons is at the root of efficiency. The reasons that the command and temper is important to the demeanor of the typical police officer is, because first a police officer wants to stop the problem as fast as possible and as swiftly as possible to prevent injuries to himself or others. The second reason would be he wants to show control, progression, and also efficient without the wanton abuse to another person or himself due to the behavior of another officer. Another question brought up is do you feel that our law enforcement officers have done enough to improve the right demeanor of law enforcement officers, and the answer to that is yes! Police officers have plenty of training given to them while on the job on how to react to particular threat levels. They’re also massively trained on their conduct, but an officer’s temperament plays a large part in dealing with another person. If I were the chief of police of a local law enforcement establishment and had a chance to set up in a formal manner and set up some guidelines on improving the demeanors of my officers I would start with using the London metropolitan rules developed by Robert peel. Robert Peels rules of principles. I would start at the basic which states that “police existence is to prevent crimes and disorder as an alternative to the repression of crime and disorder by military force and severity of legal punishment. I would make sure my officer’s perform their occupations to the best of their abilities, so that the public’s approval of my organizations, presence, behavior, and conduct have the support and respect of the community. I would also as Chief of police continue having training on a monthly basis for all officers that would concentrate on the officer’s demeanors and how to judge a problem with limited threats as conceivable. I want my officer’s to know that training is available to them at any time and that there will be no excuses for any unnecessary behavior. The way I would know if my officers were developing is my training officer would keep a record on how each officer was doing as far as attending classes provided during training, and another way would be by their supervisor’s evaluation on each individual.
