If Iago had not poisoned Othello’s mind, Othello and Desdemona’s marriage would have been a happy one, based on trust and mutual understanding.
Williams Shakespeare wrote Othello in 1604, in Elizabethan period. Othello, the Moor is an immigrant to Venice. He is the most military commander. Enchanted by all his past and to his imposing figure, Desdemona has fallen in love and finally married with him. Brabantio is a senator and Desdemona’s father. He has felt betrayed by his daughter when he discovered that they are married. Other principal character in this play is Iago who poisoned Othello’s mind. Othello is a hero, an honest and outstanding military commandant. Desdemona is naïve young lady, who listen her heart.
Othello and Desdemona fallen in love.
Othello said: “She loved me for the dangers I had passed, / And I loved her that
she did pity them. / This only is the witchcraft I have used. / Here comes the lady:
let her witness it”. (Oth. 1.3.166-169).
In the next verses Desdemona confronted her father, Brabantio. She showed her feelings for
Othello: “I am hitherto your daughter./But here’s my husband;/So much I challenge that I may profess / Due to the Moor my lord”. (Oth. 1.3.183.186-187).
Desdemona she will be faithful to Othello. She wants to follow him in a war.
