It uses an instrument to bring people together such as nationality or religion. When people believe in one goal and come together around it, they start to exchange their sense of individuality to the sense of unity and belonging. In Die Welle, it is shown to us how easy to manipulate masses and create a unification of them by eliminating the desires of an individual. Moreover, it is seen that people can easily be a part of it with the desire of acceptance and the power of discipline while the idea seems to them as irrational.
Fascism Waves: A Historical AnalysisFascism is a doctrine that was created by Germany in 1913 to refute the existence of a mass of collective political systems and also to create the false idea that such systems are a sham. Fascism in its historical mode is often considered a form of anarchism with the belief that the collective will of the masses and the social order are the correct tool and will to control everyone else. As such, the practice of Fascism has become one of the means by which a revolutionary concept is constructed. This form of anarchism seems to have attracted many members who are passionate in their struggle against state-run social order in order to prove it. They often use tactics such as the use of suicide bombers and the assassination of politicians. Fascist tactics, especially the use of assassinations of political leaders, have been utilized to justify many of the current events, such as the bombings of the Soviet Embassy in Berlin on 17 th, and the assassinations of Italian dictator, Matteo Renzi, in Madrid on the 15 th, which followed the murders of the political people of Italy in February of 2001. Some members of the European Socialist Party, especially those from Italy, are the founder and most active members of this anti-fascist organization. They are also the leaders responsible for many of the attacks on European countries during the 2008 Olympic Games by anti-Semites. This group frequently uses a type of poison to help their opponents. Many of the members of this group are involved as political members of Fascism Waves, in the belief that the state and authoritarian regimes are necessary to get the world into a “culture of self-interest.” But there is a certain danger that they will join with some elements from other groups. The fear of joining to any faction from other groups as well as from the fascist movement is considered by some as a threat to the whole group. Thus the German anarchists who use this tactic, often use this idea that fascism has to be “fascistic” to avoid conflict. Thus a large portion of the “fascists”, who had left the Communist Party in 1938, do not want to join the Fascists anymore because they fear fascism in its current form. Many young people in the German anarchist movement have not been taken seriously as supporters of Communism Waves, since it is said in their writings that they are against the Nazi regime. However, there are many who want Fascism to continue as it was and are opposed to the idea of capitalism, and even today there are the young, anti-Hitler anarchists who want fascism to continue. Many students from this group believe that the Communist Party also has to remain a power after the Communist Party collapses. It would be incorrect to claim that all young people belong to an organization like this. If young people were forced to fight for Fascism, as many people believe, perhaps they would join other groups. But that is the question because they are no longer members of any group which can

The experiment which is carried out by the anarchist teacher Rainer Wegner is the starting point of the movie. Wegner starts an experiment between the students who are confused about the establishment of Nazism and do not have enough knowledge to clarify it. After taking the charge of fascist class, he starts to put some acts in practice such as giving them a collective name and dress code which lead the group to lose their sense of individuality for a sense of belonging. The sense of belonging is the most important thing about fascism to examine. The need of belonging to something, someone, or somewhere is being manipulated and used to capture people by fascism. It brings people together by giving them a purpose to live, making them to be a part of the group which they can be loyal and feel belong to. The different characteristics of people are not barriers to this unification as long as they can be come together under one goal or instrument. For example, in Die Welle, the Turkish student Sinan, Dennis who was born in East Germany, and Tim who considers himself as an outsider are part of the fascist class despite that all differences they have. Day by day, they feel more belong to Die Welle and see themselves as a part of it. It is shown to us how fascism works; it brings people together, commit them each other with various similarities, ensure the obedience of them by taking some rules and intimidate them with the fear of the possibility of losing the sense of belonging. The non-individualistic acts strengthen the bond between people and the sense of belonging. The situation and conditions before the Second World War caused people to feel insecure and triggered the need of belonging to rise, so fascism spread easily.
The movie pays attention to the sense of belonging excessively and the other important tools of fascism such as nationality and a powerful leader/dictator figure are overlooked. The rise of the fascist group in the movie is happening without a leader, Wegners only contribution to the groups becoming popular and powerful is bringing them together. However, it can be seen
