Some of the issues that managers are facing with the increase of globalization are the different and multiple laws, regulations and policies, different cultures, customs, environmental issues, workplace conditions, rights of the employees (sweatshops) or money laundering and corruption.
Cross-cultural training is very important when it comes to anyone that is assigned work in a country he or she is not familiar with. The individual and or his family must learn about the culture, the language, and the different countries understanding and structures. When it comes to learning a countries language, the individual has to understand what they are saying instead of just learning the words. Learning about the culture of the different cultures is also important because it will then lead to misunderstanding and misinterpreting.
Work environments may also be different from country to country such as in the United States, you have to be over 16 before you are allowed to work, and then an individual is restricted to certain hours when he or she is in school. China may have children as young as 14 working in plants where they could only make around two dollars a day.
When it comes to briberies, managers may find to easier to hide money in foreign countries without anyone in the United States knowing about it. These managers may also find it easier to embezzle money from these foreign companies.
Some of the ethical risks that are involved with globalization are the implementation and planning of the appropriate conduct from the senior managers. These senior or top managers can accept and take bribes and gifts from the foreign companies and none would ever know about it. It is important for these firms to avoid the misconduct that will damage the reputation of the company and the ethical disasters that will also damage the stakeholders.
