There are many different movie versions of the William Shakespeares famous play Hamlet. In this essay I am going to compare two different versions of hamlet, the Kenneth Branaugh version of Hamlet with the Zefirellis version staring Mel Gibson who plays the role of Hamlet they young prince of Denmark. I believe the Kenneth Branaughs version of Hamlet is more accurate and follows the original play closely. Where as the Zefirellis version of Hamlet doesnt follow the play as accurately, it has scenes added to movie which is not in the original play, it lack the existence of some characters and has some missing senses. I am going to compare several scenes in details from two movies.
Usually when movies are made based on a book or a play, no two version of the movie is the same. The movies usually alter the scenes, adding extra scenes and getting rid of some original scenes to make interesting and fit the set length of movies played in the theaters. The Zelfirelli version of Hamlet is highly edited, with left out scenes and some extra added scenes. The Kenneth Braaughs version of the movie is very straightforward, keeps exact to the original play and its much longer. First of all the Zefirelli version of Hamlet has a funeral scenes added which was not in the Shakespeares play. The added funeral scenes replaces the original opening of the play where the ghost of deceased king Hamlet appears first steering at Marcellus and Bernando, the guards on duty. Zefirellis version of the movies hamlet introduces the ghost when Horatio is telling Hamlet about appearance of his fathers ghost.
