Report this essayAmerican political culture contains a number of core ideals, values and standards that define the relationship between citizens and government, and citizens to one another. Different societies view politics differently, and have different approaches to the view of society. In America, the views of society are liberty, equality, democracy, and individualism. Liberty as right to be free; equality as equality of opportunity; democracy as elected officials from the people; and individualism as the individuals rights are valued above those of the state (government). However, during the period when British ruled in the 1760s and in the early 1770s, the concept of the government become corrupt and dangerous tyranny that Americans want to change to a new set of basic principles: “No Taxation without Representation”.
After fighting in the French and Indian War, Britain has enormous war debts that the government in London was running out of options in its effort to find a way to solve. As a result, George Grenville, whom the king made prime minister in 1763, agreed that the colonists should be “compelled to obey the laws and to pay a part of the cost of defending and administering the empire” (7). Greenville began trying to impose a new system which the colonists are to be taxed. Some of the major taxes that British imposed on are the Sugar Act of 1764, Stamp Act of 1765, Tea Act of 1773, and Townshend Act of 1767. These acts later creates problems and arguments that the colonists felt that they were being cheated from the British as a way of gaining revenue to support the war debts.
\p>However, the colonists were not happy to see a colonial government that was taking money from British interests instead of giving it to their own people, and this led to the decision of King James II to declare the new colony a sovereign nation, that was being forced to pay a part of its debt to New York. While it is true that the colony was under full American management that has yet to be resolved by the British government, the British government still had other options for the colony that could allow the colonists to pay its debt to the United States or to claim title to it from a colony. For example, in the 18th century, the Colonial Administration was still trying to find ways to avoid the War for Colonies as the colonists wanted to build a great society, build a military force that they could use to their advantage, defend the colonies from the enemy, and, most importantly, maintain their own peace.
\p>A new form of government was formed within the colonies. These new government was composed of: (1) English commissioners, who held the power to legislate on matters of national importance that could be brought before England in the colonies (a decision that is a crucial feature of the new system where the colonial powers cannot use their power to stop or postpone acts that they deem appropriate (which is why the colonies often do this under other names like the British Empire)). (2) Governor and other government officials who were appointed to preside over the colonies, which elected their new representatives.
