Nature Vs Nurtue Essay
Sociology: Task 2 We as one of the greatest nations ever, face a dilemma of social problems. The social problems we face, are many, however homelessness is at the top of the list. This year alone there are over two million people who are considered homeless. This number includes men, women, children and elderly. Homelessness does not discriminate we see all races, ethnic and religious groups of all ages. We as a nation ask ourselves why? This question continues to baffle all of us. Truth is there is no right answer to this question why. The major leading factors that seem to contribute to this status are lack of affordable housing, sudden sickness, and lack of work. The problem with homelessness is the numbers keep growing instead of declining. It is up to us as a nation to find suitable answers to help theses lost people before it is too late. It is our responsibility to push for government funding so that this will no longer be an issue in our great nation. IN analyzing homelessness it appears that the precursors which lead to homelessness are complicated. Social issues which lead to homelessness are
drug and alcohol addictions, mental health disorders, and family breakdown. These issues are then compounded by inability to afford mental health services, poor socioeconomic status and available, affordable housing. Homelessness has become a very complicated social issue with a wide variety of economic and social factors. The factors that lead to homelessness usually contribute to how long a person remains homeless. In analyzing this widespread problem we see homelessness is very hard to try and define, so our government is uncertain in how to try and eliminate this growing epidemic. The functionalism theory has us to believe that homelessness is about maintaining social organization. The theory tells us that it is all a part of a stable and integrated society. Homelessness as viewed by the functionalists is a necessity for society to function. Homelessness is just dismissed as another social class. Once a part of this class one remains in this class unless they move up a class. The functionalism theory lets us believe that all of society regardless
