Advantages and Disadvantages of E Learning
There are many advantage and disadvantages of e-Learning. I want to take it from three different perspectives. The learner’s point of view, the companies point of view and the teacher point of view. E-learning can be defined as an umbrella term and broadly refers to any learning facilitated using electronic means, E-Learning can capatailze on a variety of delivery media depending on the approach taken. Some include:
Online textbooks,o – CD roms video Audio – tapes, CDs, Mp3, Wav, Videotapes, strreaming online, satelittle or cable transmissions. Social media techonologies just as discussion boards on twitter, my space, facebook and Linkedln.
Learner
Advantages- They are actively involved in their own learning, flexibility and adaptability for them according to time and location, Training can be done at their own pace.
Disadvantages- Not having full command of computer tools, autonomous self-management if not set into a time frame, no direct contact with a trainer.
Company
Advantages- “Mass” training, savings by not setting up locations, travel and accommodations, customization and adjustment of training course to obtain preferred skills and teaching goals, flexibility for the instructor, low or no logistical issues in reaching sites, updatable teaching materials and course tracking ability.
Disadvantages- No control over motivation, involvement and course management by learners, unless time frames are established. Investments in computers and software must take place, must engage in change management to introduce e-learning.
Trainer
Advantage- Training performed in a flexible and adaptable mood when considering location and time, learning can be monitored from a platform.
Disadvantage- No direct contact with
