I feel that Dodie Smiths novel 101 Dalmations argues for and shows that dogs should have the same rights to live as many humans do. She does this by giving the dogs voices and personalities. In the article by Singer it says that animals should have the same rights to live if such animals have thoughts and feelings to not be in pain or to live without suffering. In Smiths novel, the voices of the puppies and animals are made well known. Therefore Smith would argue that animals would have the same right to happiness and to live without struggle that humans do. “In general, though, the questions of when it is wrong to kill (painlessly) an animal is one to which we need give no precise answer. As long as we remember that we should give the same respect to the lives of animals as we give to the lives of those humans at a similar level, we shall not go far wrong.” (Singer).

In Dodie Smiths novel I have not found any evidence that goes against the best “interest” of the dogs or animals. Maybe I am just an animal lover but the only interests in going against what the dogs would wish came from the evil character Cruella De Vil. Who wanted to brutally murder the puppies to make them into fur coats. In my eyes this just makes the argument for the best interest of animals. This analysis is comparable to many other aspects of the human race.
