After watching the video “my dog is a weapon”, I was deeply touched because I felt sorry and sad for the dogs showed in the video. The video was filmed in and about the United Kingdom. In the video, some young teenagers took dangerous dogs to the streets and asked whether the can be a choice of weapon. The owners of the dangerous dogs intentionally treated and trained the dogs in an inhumane way, which kind of turned the personalities of dogs and made them dangerous and irritable. During this week’s class time, I learned that pit bulls are a kind of inimical and aggressive dogs in UK. Dog fighting started a long time ago for about centuries and people such as gambler hold high interest to this kind of game. There are three levels of dog fighting: street, hobbyists and professional. As for the breed discriminatory legislation, the federal law of Animal Welfare Act states exhibit, transport, buy, or sell a fighting animal is illegal, which means that dog fighting is illegal. After this week’s study, I changed a lot of my old thoughts to the dog fighting and dangerous dogs. I used to think that dog fighting is professional and are able to control the damage to the dog fighters just like boxing fighting in an animal way. However, I found out that the dog fighting is way more bloody and cruel than what I imagined. It cost unnecessary damage and injury or even death to innocent dogs.Considering the victim of the dog attack who was interviewed in the documentary and the ban on pit bulls that was put in place in the UK, I think that it may not be an effective way to ban on pit bulls. Since there are so many other dangerous dogs in the world, just ban on pit bulls cannot eventually solve the problem. Therefore, the strategy should be based on controlling the dog-fighting problem. Additionally, I do not think the leash being punished is correct because it is not fair for them.   In my opinion, the most effective way to solve the dog-fighting problem is to regulate the dangerous dogs if the owners are going to take them on streets. Using strong and safe dog chain is effective to prevent dog fighting on the streets. In addition, setting up a law to regulate the owners is more official and necessary. Since with the law to regulate, the owner should be more cautious. Furthermore, the whole society should take this problem as a serious problem waiting to be solved. I believe the popular culture influence the ownership of aggressive looking dogs just for purely status. Many young people can be easily affected by others to have aggressive looking dogs. Therefore, the DMX video will attract more people to have aggressive looking dogs. By the way, young people sometimes abuse their dogs just for fun, which make them to have a named to be called “irresponsible owners”. At last, the neglect and abuse will definitely bring negative impacts to their pets because it is hurting the animals both in psychological or physiological way.
