Dow’s headquarters is located in Midland, Michigan, where the first store was built. Dow began in the 1950s as the agricultural unit of The Dow Chemical company. At first, their aim was to develop solutions that improve the way the world farms. In 1989, The Dow Chemical Company, which was founded in 1897, created a joint contract with the Elanco Plant Sciences business of Eli Lilly and Company resulting in the formation of DowElanco. In 1997, The Dow Chemical Company acquired 100 percent ownership of the business and renamed it Dow AgroSciences. Now, they employ more than 9,000 people worldwide, and their 2015 global sales were $6.4 billion (U.S.).
Since Dow is a world-wide company, they have locations in North America, Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. In the United States alone, there are 79 business centers. There is only 1 center in Indiana; however, it is one the largest centers in North America.In general, their products are as follows: innovative hybrids and seed varieties, crop-enhancing traits, crop protection products, vegetation management solutions, residential pest control, turf and ornamental, healthy oils. Their goal is to boost food production by 70% to aid in the estimated population increase.
