The best day of my life was definitely the day that I received my drivers license. This day is one of the most memorable because of the feelings I had when I received it, the opportunities that were opened up for me and the long lasting benefits that I received from it that still exist today.
Getting my drivers license was an intense feeling that I will never forget. Just knowing that I had a drivers license made me feel so free, as free as a bird flying in the open sky with no real place to go, just a desire to be free. I felt like I could do anything. I had new responsibilities like most adults, and I came to a realization that I had lived through one of the most important events in the process of growing up. This event opened up many possibilities for me such as interests in cars, driving skill improvement, and freedom.
With my drivers license I could pick up my friends without my parents around, making the friend experience a whole lot better. I could go on dates without the embarrassment of my parents driving me. On any given day I could do anything I wanted because I could drive. I could feel the textures of the roads, smell the fresh air when my windows were down, see the beautiful terrain that I drove through and I could hear any type of musical tunes I wanted to. I felt as if I was on top of the world with my drivers license. What more could I ask for at such a young age of only 16 years old?
My drivers license brought me great feelings and let me do more with my life than I could ever do before. As well as giving me those feelings and that type of freedom, having my drivers license opened up a new image of the community for me. I could see more of the city, gain experience with directions and I could improve my driving abilities all with my drivers license. I also became very interested in the way the automobile works and eventually looking more into what makes it go faster. Driving fast in a car may be unsafe but the thrill and excitement of high rates of speed gave me a rush I had never felt before. Discovery: I became an adult again. I was driving to work in my spare time after being discharged from high school. A few months in, I wanted to take a break from the driving part and would be driving the neighborhood for a few weeks at a time. I had heard stories about other drivers with their licenses open, but no one had ever done it. So I started taking the risk that maybe it would lead to a better experience for me and my family, or maybe it might be completely normal. When I started getting my license open, I learned so much about the roads, how they drive, the way the city works. This was in the early mid-’80s and I never really thought the idea of driving faster or being so distracted was going to get to a point where I would even drive faster, even if it did. I bought my new home in the summer of 2012 and began to think the change had just taken effect. It wasn’t long before I realized that in America only about 100% of the drivers who are involved in a crash are actually drivers under the age of 18. That percentage drops further as adults become more mature, while the percentage increases for younger drivers. The number of cars that crash is a big concern for the public, especially for minority groups. The number of deaths in crashes involving older people have plummeted from nearly 1,000 per year in 2005 to fewer than 0 in 2012, the time period that a decade of high traffic was considered safe for the public. It’s also not unreasonable to wonder whether older drivers are more likely to have broken up with families or other people they love, or are worse off for taking public transportation to and from work. The problem is most likely just old age. If you are driving for work, do some research. A good way is to look at your credit line history. If your parents or a relative or even roommates were involved, then they may have been involved as well. These are numbers you must monitor as well while you are driving. In general, I would think that under 50 is a good age for an older person to drive, since it’s more time spent thinking about who and how to drive or more time spent thinking about what to do instead of just driving and thinking about your life as it is. The longer I can drive I’ll get a better look at myself in the mirror. It might be just a matter of getting my head round the fact that I’m not only faster, but also have better control over my life’s situation – what is my future for it without making my life worse?
