Title of PaperYour NameFall – 2014Belhaven University – HoustonTitle of Paper Leadership activities require decision making among other qualities and functions. Leadership decision making is an intendedly rational human choice leading to human action embodying the logic of consequence (March, 1991). Leaders are faced with decision making daily, and leaders have accountability for the execution of those decisions. The effective leader, one who is a leader of strategic change, is one who understands the mission, can clearly communicate the vision, and can initiate changes that will have a productive impact on the organization (Clawson, 2009) Clawson analyzes six dimensions related to leadership decision making, and morality: strategic, financial, moral, ethical, legal, and cultural. The morality of a leader is dependent upon the VABEs of the individual making the decision. Strategically a leader will align their decision on the mission and policies of the organization. The values of a leader will determine how they prioritize the objectives of their decision. “An act may be immoral to a person based on his or her VABEs, while not viewed as unethical or illegal by other authorities” (Clawson, 2009). The Bible states in Mark 7 that what comes out of a person is what is in the person heart. Monetary gain is often thought of as success in business and society. A leader that is spiritually conscious with a biblical standard may be profitable however will base their decision differently. For example as followers of Christ it would be difficult to justify owning a gentlemen’s club although it is allowable by law. Some may argue that the business is lucrative financially, but morally it is biblically unethical. Obvious money and status are strong values of the club owner. The majority would agree that the values of the club owner are immoral even working within the rules of the law. Those that believe since it is legal that it’s not unethical disregard some of the elements associated with such establishments such as human trafficking, prostitution, addiction and abuse. The assumptions is that men go to the bar watch women strip off their clothes while compensating her is innocent. Annually sex generates billions of legal revenue.Truett Cathy who founded Chick-fil-A on Christian principals closed his restaurants on Sundays to allow employees the option to worship. During a time where domestic Christian beliefs were not persecuted in the capacity that Christians are being sued over their decision to stand on biblical principles. Wells Fargo does not claim to be a Christian company, however if their leadership are followers of Christ how do they continue to have consistent indiscretions. You would think during the latest fraudulent activities of opening unauthorized accounts, that someone in the entire company would have rang the alarm. The love of money is the root of all evil, and those who ignored the wrong doing are held just as responsible. Leaders of Wells Fargo have established a culture. The U.S. justice system may not hold those leaders strictily accountable; however God will judge the unrighteous.
