** “Just a few weeks ago, we were told the baby was just a young kid. Then it dawned on us, we were too big to go,” says Leehoms mother, Leehoms mother, Leo, 29. “We started wondering if we could be the biggest sister we could ever have. What if I could help the little girl do her own thing.” As one of the youngest siblings in their family, the six-year-old became involved in the arts as well, singing at the Taipei Museum of Arts’s Jazz and Opera Festival and playing piano, violin, clarinet and clarinet, and at the Museum’s Musical Theatre. She became a composer and sang in the concert halls of many of Taoyuan’s most famous theaters, including the Taipei Opera and The Chinese Theatre, as well as the Taiwan Opera. When her father, Leehoms grandfather, did not approve of their younger sister, a year after her father died in 1975, she found herself at a young age acting, mostly in the musical theatre. When she was only a few months old, she began playing songs by other players and singing at the Opera Hall. After the two-week graduation, she left the theater to join her sisters in their own sing-along choir at The Chinese Theater. She joined the choir of her grandmother, Maohau, and her older sister Leeh, as well as the other members of the choir, on the 20th anniversary of her graduation. “As adults, our main family is completely dedicated to the art form,” says Maohau, who works on a solo and in concert; she also performs in the traditional traditional Chinese songs. Before her graduation from Taoyuan, her sister was acting in the Taiwanese opera as a senior member of the Chinese orchestra. As she grew into her full-time role of director, Maohau helped design the score for the opera. She has worked mostly with the lead in the Taiwanese opera, and also has been directing the Chinese theatrical version of a Chinese TV series starring China’s former head of state, Zhou Yi-yu, while Maohau also directs Chinese movies including Kung Fu Panda, The Wind Rises, and Séance of the West, as well as three more western films, including the film “Bowser” and the novel “The Song of Hui.” To pay for her schooling, Leehoms mother works as a pastry chef. She has three children, daughter Maohau, two of whom remain in their homes. She lives in New York City with her wife, Leo, and three of her family’s oldest. In 2001, both of Leehoms father’s daughters entered law school with their father having applied for the honor to become a practicing lawyer who was also an adjunct professor of law at Columbia
