Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the ability to control and evaluate emotions. Professors, Peter Salvoey and John D. Mayer stated in their article titled “Emotional intelligence” that emotional intelligence is defined as “the subset of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor ones own and others feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide.” Salvoey and Mayer concluded that there are four branches of Emotional intelligence. The first branch is perceiving emotions, which is the ability to perceive emotions accurately. This includes understanding nonverbal signs , body language and facial expression. The second branch is reasoning with emotions this involves the use of emotions to promote thinking and use cognitive activity. Emotions help us to prioritize what we pay attention to and react to, in life we react to things emotional. Then there is understanding emotions, often times the emotions we perceive can carry an abundant of reasons. For an example if someone portray the emotion of anger, the observer must define the reason for the emotion. The person emotion could result from any issue whether its a speeding ticket, or just overall having a bad day. Finally managing emotions, being able to manage emotions is the key to understanding them. Youll be able to regulate emotions and respond to them in the proper manner. I remember a time when me and my cousin indulge in an altercation there was no control neither one of us got our points across due to yelling and being egar to express how we feel about the situation. Later I found out you must be willing to humble yourself so that you can receive a positive reaction on both sides , often we dont want to play the mature role due to anger that has set in and built up rapidly as time progress. But you must first learn that person background and understand why that person is the way they are. We often forget about that, and thats how altercations normally break out, I feel as if once you learn that person you will be able to understand and react to them in the appropriate way.
