Workplace Training Article AbstractYunjue WuHRDV 5610: Training and DevelopmentWebster UniversityMay 2nd, 2015Overview/Summary of Two Articles: “Why Employee Development is Important, Neglected and Can Cost You Talent, by Victor Lipman and “Creating a Learning Culture for the Improvement of your Organization”, by Tala Nabong This paper will discuss trends in modern training and development. The first article we will discuss is an article by Victor Lipman for forbes.com titled “Why Employee Development is Important, Neglected and Can Cost You Talent.” Lipman states that “employee development is very important in the hyper-competitive modern world” (Lipman, 2013). Lipman states companies tend to neglect training and development it in lieu of more important company day-to-day operations at the expense of good talent (Lipman, 2013). He further argues that the only way to keep good talent that can help a company is to take a genuine interest in employees and nurture them (Lipman, 2013). Without top employee development and programs in place to develop employees, companies risk losing good employees that do not develop their talent. In addition, Lipman implores employees to not think about the here and now but to instead think about the future of both the company and its employees. Training employees should be a fundamental part of any company’s future and hopes companies do for their own success. He goes on to say this kind of training should be a part of a company’s bureaucracy. The next article I read and wrote about is called “Creating a Learning Culture for the Improvement of your Organization,” by Tala Nabong for trainingingindustry.com. Nabong believes that the only way for a company to trust succeed is to create an environment in which productivity is valued and appreciated (Nabong, 2015). She believes that fostering this environment is the only way that a company will truly succeed in the modern environment and says that this learning culture is the only way that a company can thrive in the modern era as well (Nabong, 2015).
