D2-assess the importance of measuring and managing employee performance at work.
In this task I am going to assess the importance of measuring and managing employee performance at Tesco.
Every company’s goal is to have employees who are top performers. If Tesco doesn’t measure and mange employee performance at work they may not be able to distinguish between the employees whose performing to their full potential and employees who are underperforming, therefore measuring and managing employee performance is important because it allows managers in Tesco to identify employees who are working hard and provide training to other employees to improve their overall productivity and efficiency.
One of the most important benefits of performance management in Tesco is to measure productivity levels of each employee who are working towards a goal/target. If Tesco uses performance management process, it will allow employees in Tesco to know the importance of their job role and will take importance towards their tasks and appreciate them. If employees in Tesco know the importance of their work and how this can help Tesco reach its goals, employees will take more pride in their work and work to their full potential. By Tesco managing employee performance it allows a good relationship between employers and employees in the organization. If employers frequently check employee’s progress in meeting organizational goals and objectives it will provide employers an opportunity to reward employees who are working hard and are determined. If employees get rewarded it will result in job satisfaction as well as higher employee productivity. Tesco’s employees want to feel like their contribution towards the business makes a difference and therefore a well trained, well-prepared, motivated workforce will result in high employee performance and will result in Tesco reaching its organizational objectives.
If Tesco use the goal theory and set goals for employees, it will make employee aware of what needs to be done and will know Tesco’s priorities. If Tesco provides specific goals for its employees then employees will have something to look forward to on a daily basis. For example, employees in Tesco could aim to improve profitability in Tesco by 10%, rather than targeting for profitability overall. Setting and achieving goals in Tesco will make employees feel a sense of success, which in turn creates better productivity and confidence. Also, goal setting will allow employees in Tesco to work as a team and this can improve group cohesion and teamwork, as employees will realize that some goals can only be achieved if there’s great teamwork. Goals will contribute to Tesco’s success and will keep employees performing to their best ability.
Poor employee performance in Tesco can result in a decrease of competitive advantage. This
