Business Research Analysis
Problem Definition
Employee performance is very important in the workforce. Employees are a big part of the work environment because they are part of what keeps a company afloat. However at times employees slack off and things are done in the way it should be that is why evaluating employee performance by using Productivity reports are important.
Three Possible Outcomes
Three possible outcomes of evaluating employee performance using productivity reports are According to Fuller (2007),
It enables employers to reward good work and help workers learn about areas they need to improve. Allows employers to discover gaps in their employee pool that need to be filled and makes the reviews process more accurate and less subjective (¶ 1).
Operational Definition
Evaluating performance through productivity is needed to see how well employees are doing these evaluations can be performed in many ways. “Performance management approaches should come together to give companies the ability to manage business performance at both strategic and operational levels for a common toolset”(Ferguson, 2007, p.1). The process of the operational definition is to put a control system in place. This system would be able to evaluate everything that goes on in the business as well as be able to evaluate the performance of employees. “It should be the system that allows you to manage the business at all levels from strategic down to everyday operations. It should, therefore support all types of performance management – strategic, tactical (LoB) and operational” (Ferguson, 2007, p. 7).
Operational Definition Constructs
Defining the use of performance evaluation will determine if its use is sufficient to accurately determine hoe employees perform. “A specific criterion of success for “great” organizations is the emphasis on specific activities that generate “breakthrough” performance improvement and not just a general emphasis on the common themes” (Trinka, 2006, pt 2). “Management theory and empirical research combine strong-pay-for-performance linkage increases motivation and performance” (ECNet, 2007, pg. 3)
Construct Benchmarks
With the use of productivity reports to evaluate employee performance surveys can be used to see how these reports are accepted among the company. The survey would be used to collect information on performance with employers and employees including their attitudes and attributions to the company. “Weve found that surveys can be useful in early phases of a study, when were trying to identify the tasks we want to measure. By asking questions about how employees do their jobs, problem areas they have, and possible solutions, we can identify possible areas to measure” (Intel, 2004, p.)
Measuring the Variables
Variables used in the measuring of employee performance is the use of employee input as well as setting up meetings that will help solve employee problems. As stated in Simkovits (1999),
In setting performance goals, input from staff is crucial. With staff involvement in setting targets comes greater commitment to achieve those goals. Finally, set up appropriate management
