The Role of Training in an Organization
Training is a fundamental aspect of any successful corporation no matter the size. Training is vital to all positions, employees not trained or poorly trained perform to the standards of company. This is the reason why establishing good and thorough training programs for new hires is crucial to a companies continued success. Just as important is training for new hires is continued employee development training. This type of training will ensure the adoption of new technology, briefing of new laws, new programs and changes for the job, and more. The frequency of the continued education for employees have to ramped up when changes are made within the company, changes in job descriptions or responsibilities, change in consumers, and product changes.
Employee Development Methods
All companies require well trained employees in order to function and maintain a good day to day operations. As times goes on, jobs become more and more complex within organizations especially multinationals. This leads the need to continue the learning experience as the company will need permanent changes to continue doing their job well. Training includes the change of skills, knowledge, attitudes (corporate culture), or behavior. This can change how employees work and attitudes towards organizational management, job, and colleagues.
Two types of training. The first type is on the job training, this type of training includes, lateral jobs additions, instructional training for different positions, apprenticeships, committee or team assignments, and coaching. The second method is off the job training. This method would include lectures, seminars, roleplaying, team building, behavior modeling and simulation.
There are two types of job rotations, vertical and horizontal. Horizontal is a position offered to an employee for a short term change in order to trained in another part of the business. Vertical rotation is a promotion to a new position for the employee. This promotion is permanent until the employee moves from that position. Job rotations benefit employees by adding to employee’s skills, and broaden their exposure to other aspects of the business, thus becoming more of a valuable employee (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007).
