Is Employment Encourage Body Art?
The reasons for some employers ban tattoos are because the interviewees appearance is very important to hiring managers. Most of the managers are not focusing on the technical skills they are looking for as the institution already has employer advisory boards and a research department both of which do a very good job of keeping us up to date on what skills we need to teach.
In organizational behaviour, we have learnt that every one of us would frequently using shortcuts in judging others. For example, selective perception, halo effect from interviewee, contract effects among of the interviewees, stereotyping might seems not fair for judging others but it has used up to now as norms and they found that it is a reasonable action for the employment process. Thus, in job interviews, good first impressions are everything.
But, there are still some of the employers who can accept the body art of a person and approved the employees to work on his workplace. This is because they believe that a tattoo cannot affect the employee’s talent or skills. As long as they done the work effectively, there is no logical reason to connect indolence, bad attitude, dishonesty or any other negative attribute to someone openly sporting a tattoo. As a wise employer, he should never judge a person based on tattoos. People whose work is done from home or doesn’t require them to have contact with the public, such as a manufacturing job, have a much easier time securing a job with a tattoo.
In conclusion, dress and appearance make a statement about a person. A person’s appearance describe as the exact opposite of the type of person trying to present. We encourage that hide body art and use professional dress for job interview and express the body art after work.
