I am experiencing an employment violation in my workplace; my employer expects all of his employees to work 6-hour days with no break. The Employment Standards Act in BC indicates that my rights don’t agree with the guidelines my employer is asking me to follow. Let’s explore the conflict and see how this issue can be resolved.

Stated in BC’s Employment Standard Act, an employee does not have to work any more then 5 hours straight without a 30-minute meal break. Clearly, I will need to bring this issue to the attention of my employer, and attempt to work something out with him.

The best way for me to approach my employer is with an open-minded, solution-oriented attitude. It’s smart for me to avoid blaming my boss for anything or coming across angry to prevent any possible arguments from arising. It’s very possible that by simply bringing up the meal break guidelines stated in the Employment Standards Act my employer
