Netherland was the first country to legalise euthanasia and Belgium was the second one both in 2002, but there are strict conditions: the patient must suffer from an deeper pain, an incurable disease and be completely conscious. Other countries that have legalise euthanasia are Luxembourg which was the third one,Colombia and Ireland, Mexico and India were only the passive euthanasia is authorized by the law an is Germany and Switzerland. Other countries as France and United States did not legalise euthanasia. However, in some states of the United States, euthanasia is legal and theses include Washington via the Washington Death with Dignity Act in 2008, Montana in the Montana First Judicial District Court in 2009, Vermont in 2013 through act 39 of the End of Life Choices and Oregon which were the first to legalise Euthanasia and assisted suicide under the Death With Dignity (DWD) Act in 1997 .
II-ARGUMENTS AGAISNT THE RIGHT TO DIE1-The right to die and the religionThe religion is the base of the moral of many persons. Our personalities and choices are made, of course by, our experience and the events we went through, but also by our beliefs and what the religion teaches us. Religion is one of the first reason why people do not accept the right to die.
a-“the right to die” in the ChristianismDespite the fact the Christian are divided into different religions, those religions are all based on Jesus of Nazareth and the Bible. When we read the Bible, we see a clear opinion or even note some passages that can be easily linked to the right to die. For a Christian, your life is yours because God gives it to you, but God has the supremacy of this life in Romans 14:18 it is said:”If we live, we are responsible to the Lord, and when we die we are responsible to the Lord. Both in life and in death we belong to the Lord”.Once you are born your life is yours, but in the Bible it is said that our body is the “Temple of God” so every decision taken about this body and the life that belongs to its not supposed to be selfish. While there is a fight to know if yes or not we should allow or legalise Euthanasia or the mercy killing, the Bible teaches us that between life and death, the best choice is always, life even if “We have here no lasting city, but are seeking that which is to come” (Heb.13:14) we should not decide when or how we are supposed to die only God has the right on it. When people use euthanasia or assisted suicide , they act like rebel or try to stand up against the reign of God because it is only him who should have the final say over death.
The christian church is not the only religion which had a definite opinion about the right to die, there is also the Islam which based its opinion on a sacred book the Quran.
b-“the right to die” in IslamAs Christians, Muslim are against euthanasia, they think that life is a sacred gift from “Allah”, the name give to God in Islam. Allah decides everything about our lifetime, how we should leave this world, why “And no person can ever die except by Allahs leave and at an appointed term” (Quran 3:145), and it did not come to us to intervene. In Islam killing is allowed, but only for specific cases ” Do not take life, which Allah made sacred, other than in the course of justice” (Quran 17:33). The fact to commit suicide or mercy killing is something unforgivable for Allah and consequence return The Prophet said: “Amongst the nations before you there was a man who got a wound, and growing impatient (with its pain), he took a knife and cut his hand with it and the blood did
” and killed one man and sent his friend to the fire. Anon said: The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said: He killed a sheep, a deer, a dog & more, but you would have saved his life with it. The man did not kill the sheep or deer, so he died by the blood of his friend. Anon said: He destroyed a tree without the intervention of the man (for there was a man who went to the fire in the midst of the man’s grief), and killed a tree. Anon said: That man did not kill the deer or the dog, and killed the man from from the side. The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, If I had given you any choice to kill him, he would have died to the ground. The man did not kill you or the deer, so he died to the ground. Anon said: It should be reported to you, and I would like to give the same advice to you. (Sahih International, p. 11) And the Prophet (peace and blessings on him) said: It is better for him to kill a fish or a goat at this time, and for him to kill every piece of meat in this place besides, and to give every bird & woman and fruit and drink in this place; but for him to eat it, but for him to die, it is better to kill every portion of it & every fruit & drink in this place besides, and no more; but for him to abstain from his diet for any cause whatsoever (even fasting), he would die; if in the Lord he had eaten too much, he would have been dead. He said: “The body is like fire. As for people, there is no need to take one’s flesh. If you have had enough (on your people’s behalf) you become like fire” (Aman ibn Abi Aisht) The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, if you do not kill a fish, eat the grass & the tree of his vine, he would have died to the ground. He said: He made a man out of a tree to die for the sake of his people. Muhammad said: He died for the cause of the Messenger of Allah. And Allah said: The Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings upon him] had mentioned (in the Book of Job), which was said to my Lord, “Why would I have given up my meat to him?” And I said: “Because Muhammad was my Lord.” The Messenger of Allah [peace and blessings upon him] said: O Allah! Would you not have given it to us instead of giving in return, and gave in return for a man that you loved, and loved your wives & your children, and took your money, because you have loved yourself so much? What do you mean, O people that have suffered for you of yourself, that you don’t even know if they are loved by any man or woman? Would you not have loved them? If you loved me, I would give you in return what you give to others of what
