There has been an ongoing debate on how to best meet the energy needs in America. Many believe that the United States must eliminate its dependency on foreign oil and research other forms of alternative energy. According to U.S. Energy Information Administration (2012), the United States consumes approximately 19 million barrels of oil per day, which tends to be very costly. Experts believe that to meet the country’s energy needs American should be investing in alternative forms of energy, such as solar power or wind energy. Alternative energy should be on everyone’s agenda, especially the agendas of those in the White House. Energy conservation is an important topic in today’s society. It is a common fact that the temperature of the earth is rising every year because of excess heat and CO2 leaking into the atmosphere. The use of cheaper, greener forms of energy can result in increased profits because solar and wind power is reusable and increased national security because the United States can make their own energy at home instead of depending on foreign countries to provide it for us. America should strive to conserve energy to lower energy costs and to promote a thriving economy, which is not hampered by the threat of national security issues. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (2012), clean energy would help the United States reduce the amount greenhouse gases and fossil fuels that leak into the environment, which would improve the air quality and also save billions of dollars.

Renewable energy differs in cost and availability, such as building and maintaining power plants. Consumers of electricity will continue to see their electricity bills skyrocket if something is not done because of the rising cost of petroleum, not to mention the that the world’s oil supply is diminishing.
