Emergy Planning Proposal
Energy Planning ProposalXXXXXXXXXXSCI/362XXXXXXXXXXXXXXThe city needs a plan for energy production and use that falls below the budget of $10 Billion for installation, and operating cost for the first year with an additional one billion dollars operating budget for each successive year. The plan needs to make provisions for 3,000 megawatts of electricity as needed by the current and projected population of the metropolitan area with a plan extension to provide for increasing population size over the next two decades. The plan for meeting the energy needs of this city includes only renewable resources. By using only renewable energy, pollution from generating electricity is almost zero with very low impact on the local ecosystem. The initial placement of the energy infrastructure will produce some pollution, but the impacts of the pollution will be negligible and a after the first year of instituting this plan, the city will have achieved a net loss in pollution through the use of clean energy and allowing natural abatement of existing pollution from previous energy production methods with a net gain in budgetary savings. In the coming years, the gains from savings in the budget and research for more efficient energy production will allow for the purchase of more energy producing equipment for the growing population. In the coming decades, if energy production equals energy use and the population continues to grow beyond the capabilities of the energy systems outlined in this plan, The projected planning cost and benefit to add hydroelectric energy to the infrastructure is $500 thousand initial cost and $350 million per year operating cost will give the city a total of 4,000 megawatts of electricity which is 1000 megawatts surplus with only the legacy system included for the first year of this plan. Additional systems outlined in this plan are possible from savings under this plan for the coming decades of positive growth. The drawback and reason hydroelectric energy is a last resort in this plan is because it will redirect the natural water flow in the river system causing ecological damage and changes in the ecosystem. Solar power is an abundant source of energy and can be installed on existing buildings and other structures. Solar panels can not only be added to existing structures, but built into the design of future construction for maximum efficiency. Traffic signals and street lights can use solar power with a battery storage unit as the only source of energy needed. Solar energy is only capturing energy during daylight when the sun is shining. The system also requires a storage system usually in the form of deep cycle batteries. The Direct current (DC) in the batteries must then be converted to Alternating current (AC) through a converter so that the energy can be harnessed for use in a standard city electrical grid.
