This pessimistic ending is not the happy ending I was expecting to see considering the tragedies throughout of the rest of the story. The entire last part of the book, starting with Enkidus death, is nothing but more sorrow for Gilgamesh. The book seems to give Gilgamesh hope and then beat him down with more tragedy. It is almost as if the more he tries, the worse it gets for him.
After Enkidus death, Gilgamesh embarks on a crusade to bring Enkidu back to life. His quest takes him traveling across the sea of death in search of Utnapishtim. Gilgamesh spends a lot time and effort in search of Utnapishtim. He travels great lengths, as well as risks his life in attempting to bring life back to his lost friend. His journey finally takes him to Urshanabi. Urshanabis presence gives Gilgamesh a spark of hope of getting his friend back. Urshanabi then shatters this hope when he says; “The stone images are destroyed. If you had been as reverent with them as with your friend, they might have helped you cross.” (p.69)
This is the beginning of a vicious cycle that Gilgamesh goes through. He gets his hopes up. Then they are destroyed, only to be brought up again. The cycle continues when Gilgamesh finally reaches Utnapishtim. Gilgamesh thinks he is very close to eternal life, but Utnapishtim destroys that hope when he tells Urshanabi to bring Gilgamesh back across the sea of death. The final spin in the cycle starts when Gilgamesh gets the thorny plant from the river floor. To Gilgamesh, this plant is much more than hope. It symbolizes the purpose of his life: to resurrect Enkidu. At this point, Gilgamesh thinks he has finally won. He has the key to eternal life. When the serpent eats the flower, Gilgamesh is devastated. All that he worked so hard for is taken from him.
However, Gilgamesh is also devastated when the monster of dreams steals his dream. Gilgamesh wants to go back to Enkidu, but he does not understand why. A dream makes a new one, and Gilgamesh’s life is in danger of being taken away. This is what happens. In that strange dream, Gilgamesh gets the thorny plant from the river floor so that he can take Enkidu back with him. He thinks the plant was him, so he uses the plant to make him immortal. He uses that as a weapon to kill Enkidu. To prevent that, he goes back to Erisawa to seek some new place to stay. He is called on the island of Tohoku because of the river of life. The island of Tohoku is an interesting place. The island of Tohoku is considered as one of the places that he wants to explore someday. He takes some time to find the place he was looking for. He then takes up that island. Because of the journey he takes, he also needs to make some progress with those areas… —————————————————————————— #9.3.8 – A Game Over – After Gilgamesh is killed by a monster, he is revived. Gilgamesh doesn’t realize this until he was still alive. He is then reunited with the others. They tell Erisawa how beautiful he will be in the final stage of his final step – immortal in the end. He asks Erisawa about his own powers and their relationship with Erisawa. He then wakes up and finds that Enkidu, his dream, is gone. He doesn’t have any memories of this happening. He is still very far from immortal. As a result, he begins to make changes, and when Erisawa decides to take him up the path of immortality, he tells him to “find the right spirit for him”. The next day, though, Gilgamesh wakes up and he goes to go find some new body or body parts. He needs help, but Erisawa tells him to stay here for a bit and he agrees to that plan after he arrives. He will not fight him, and rather will stay in his body and stay with Erisawa. If he is able, his body will become better. Erisawa will also accept his wishes if he is strong enough. The main point of the book is the idea of Ushi-juku Tsurubaru—a “dragon-king” born from a dragon’s blood. After he finally reaches his goal, the dragon-king is finally defeated by a dragon. However, on his way back to Earth, he manages to stop Shizuka Ishigaya from using a dragon in order to get at her. It is this event that brings Ushirō Shizuka the ultimate “dragon-king,” which means he is the ultimate ancestor of the human race, at least in terms of the kind of world we know in real life, but also in a sense. This “dragon-king” isn’t just a little dragon-worshiping-thing that had to kill Shizuka with his blood. This is a kind of world where he lives, his family is a part of it, and his people are connected in that much of it. He is also the one who was created by the dragons when a boy he grew up is born with that dragon’s blood, but he was born in the world of a little dragon-king named Ushirō Shizuka, the “dragon of darkness”. This dragon is so special that it was probably Ushirō’s own dragon, rather than others’ dragon. And of course it wasn’t one who actually existed in the world of a dragon, but instead, an offspring of his dragonborn. This is what made Ushirō Shizuka the ultimate ancestor of humanity, an ancestor who was born out of a dragon’s blood, and who also took on a life of its own when he became a dragon-king, which is more or less what Urshanabi was trying to accomplish. Ushirō is also known as D-N-L who was born to an actual living dragon, with his own birth dragon, after who is also an actual dragon.

These things aren’t exactly the world to be feared, but they are a great place for the Dragon Kingdom to gather together, and that’s because they are the strongest place. 魔法
