1. How do you think a small margin for error affects communication on a project?
When there is little tolerance for errors, communication is an asset in the situation. Team members need to communication and ask for assistance when helped is needed. Or if there is an error made they need to alert the co-worker asap so that the problem doesnt expand and make it harder to fix.
2. In what ways do you act differently in a face-to-face meeting than you do during a telephone conference call?
Your communication skills are different face-to-face compared to on a conference call. On a conference call, you could be in your pajamas, browsing online and be talking and signaling others to get your coffee. During face-to-face, your peers see you so you must pay close attention and appear alert and engaged. You come in professional attire and come prepared with a notebook and etc.
3. Why is written communication essential in some situations (such as conveying specifications), while oral communication is essential in others (such as technology interchange transfers)?
Written communication is important in situations where there is a lot of information being transferred. This is important because those receiving the information probably wont retain it all when you give it to them so theyll have a reference. Oral communication is important when explaining something to someone so you can see their reaction and ensure they understand.
4. What listening hurdles do you find yourself facing as you listen to others? How do you handle it when you believe someone youre speaking to is not hearing what you say?
Sometimes it is hard to listen to others because Im distracted with other thoughts and/or not interested in what they are talking about. If someone Im talking to doesnt appear to be listening, Ill ask them thing like “does that makes sense” or “put that in your own words so I know you understand”.
