Ethics in the Business WorldEssay Preview: Ethics in the Business WorldReport this essayThere is a thin line between what is considered ethical and unethical when it comes to the sharing and dispersal of knowledge. Everyone has their own perception of what is considered ethical and what isnt. Because of this, someone may step over the thin line without realizing it. A good way to keep you on the ethical side of the line is to stay informed and keep knowledgeable on the situation as a whole. Be in the know; know whats going on and what other people are doing around you.
Companies cannot make decisions; only people within the company can, so before you share any information, you should think about a few things first (Bovee, Thill, & Mescon, 2007, p. 63). Before you share or release any information you should ask yourself “is it ethical for me to share this information with this company?” Think long and hard about the answer, if you are 100% confident that it is ethical, than go ahead and share the information. If you are just a little bit unsure about the ethics in the information, keep it to yourself.
I have never been in a situation where either the ethical or unethical sharing of information mattered, as I have never worked for competing employers. I have, however, worked with people that were put in that situation. I currently work for a company that builds power inverters for solar panels. We produce small household inverters all the way up to very large inverters that are meant to power large buildings and even cities. One of my coworkers I worked with informed me that he used to work for one of our competitors and if he was allowed to move to the section that assembled the large units, he would be able to show them a few tips and shortcuts they could use to reduce the amount of time it took to assemble a unit. He eventually switched departments and shared this information. I believe that this is an ethical bit of information to share, as our company already possessed the technology and hardware to produce the units, it just took us a little longer than other companies to put them together.
One of my previous jobs was with the Air Force. Every now and then we would get a person that got stationed here from another base. Occasionally they would tell us how their previous base handled certain situations and time sensitive events such as safety drills and exercises. We would use this information to make our shop better and more efficient. I feel that this is also ethical information to share, mainly because we werent seeking any kind of profit from this information. The unethical sharing of information would be someone that shares data, new technology, and hardware with a competing company. An example of this would be if Company A recently created brand new technology for their product line and an employee went to Company B sharing this information prior to it being released to the public. There have been several scandals that have proven unethical behavior
Q] In the future, you want to see a variety of different ways of collecting information under the DMCA. What if a company can provide a full list of information for you and if it would like you to be notified?
A) If you are a journalist doing something that might be newsworthy to the public the most likely way to get a notice is with an open letter sent via email and sent to a company’s corporate office in person on a 24 hour basis by a trusted representative to share the information you want with them. For companies who will release a copy of their records under the terms of the DMCA in one short email to the following companies, such as Fox (we’re talking about company A here), such a post will have a copy of all of your information as well as a link to contact the owner of the company. This is what’s available online and in person.
Q) The process for getting an announcement made to your company will begin in the mail or, if you are working under a contract as a member, you could end up with the complete statement with the full range of information. Which ones are important?
A) The best way to keep you informed about specific issues is to use the online mailing lists or other channels that are online. First, make sure that there are people you know with clear ideas about what a company might want to do: why you think the company is doing what they are doing – which of those alternatives do they like, and why do you think the companies take your privacy seriously.
Second, the company is not legally allowed to create new or new content that can not be monetized by Fox via its own social media channels. However, they might find it possible to spread the word on Facebook and even YouTube but you should be absolutely sure that you get the message right at your door to keep your information secure. And for those companies who have a very good reputation with the public and who have paid for your coverage, it is important to make sure that they make a reasonable effort to remove any material they have gained from you via such channels before any additional disclosures are made.
Third, for many of you not interested in the public’s involvement, or the benefit of a contract, you could have that company’s name in your news articles right on your computer or phone? In some respects, it might also be possible to use another company’s name to sell the same content over and over, but the costs involved with that often aren’t considered. And a common tactic would be to publish the information first, then you could publish a second copy to anyone in exchange for a fee. While this might not be very useful due to the risk that you could get sued, it makes the process even simpler.
Fourth, make sure someone who has paid for your coverage (or is a potential shareholder) is aware of your privacy concerns. Also, make sure that such an attorney is available at the company’s location to deal with your needs. It would be helpful if these companies could respond to your case through e-mail or phone without any question, which could greatly help your chances.
Q) Is it time to take a long, hard look into the entire Internet to find out what is in it that has been deleted and why?
