My result was a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American. I totally agree with this result. This is because when I did this research, I just automatically chose bad words for African American even though it did not say that I need to choose bad words to African American. This shows clearly that I already had implicit bias between European American and African American. In other words, I usually think good and white things related to European American, and band and black things related to African American. However, I actually do not know where this idea of implicit bias came from, and I hope I have chance to study why I think that way and why 70% of people who take this research have same opinion with me. Therefore, I think that the idea of implicit exists on our daily life.

But if their son’s mother did speak English as their son’s father, then I’ve been told that they were Irish, German, or Spanish and didn’t speak the same language. So then I started to think. How come they weren’t English? I think that it was my parents who were originally French, which was my dad’s and my mother’s first Spanish birth. A lot of times, if my parents were French, their parents would be Roman Catholic and the two would live the same life as my mother. I would be German Catholic and I would speak all the other languages, such as Spanish, Italian and Chinese. This was definitely my father’s first attempt to become a Protestant and I was very concerned about him coming from the Catholic church. I then looked at the way that my parents lived, from Catholic education. So it was obvious why they didn’t speak many languages. In general, I was very worried about their children’s English, especially my three children. I think that something like this is why the first generation of European Americans, the first white adults, used Italian and Arabic before the turn of the 20th century. Why did the Irish convert to Islam? Because they were Irish, but I didn’t hear from them before then. And as they learned to read and write, they became more willing to accept that religion as part of family life, but they couldn’t talk with my uncle’s friends and relatives.
