Handling electricity, gas and other hazardous materials
Contractors, the event team and event manager have to be catuous when handling electricity, gas and other hazardous materials as this is a major risk and could cause an injury or death in some cases. The contractors handling electricity, gas and other hazardous materials must be qualified people. To guarantee the contractors are qualified the event manager will need to check their transcript before the event.
Operating equipment and machinery
The event will be operating equipment and machinery such as, cranes and amusement devices that could lead to injuries or death to workers and guests if equipment and machinery aren’t operated and put together correctly. It is extremely important to ensure people operating equipment are qualified/licensed operators. Each amusement device must be registered and approved by Work Cover Authority as required. The ground or other surface on which devices are to be erected must be sufficiently firm to sustain the device while in operation and not dangerous because of its slope or irregularity or for any other reason.
Moving heavy objects
When moving heavy objects the potential for WHS iddues occurring which may include serious short term and long-term injuries. All staff and volunteers are trained to assess each task and use safe technique when lifting or carrying. To ensure the safety of workers moving heavy objects there will be additional workers helping each other and making sure nobody is handling objects that are too heavy for them.
