Memo Report – Excance Laboratories Group
Introduction
On April 27 the ExCance Laboratories group gave a 20-minute presentation on their product, the ExCance cancer pill. This presentation was the culmination of weeks of planning and preparation by the group. The purpose of this memorandum is to analyze how the team worked together to achieve their goal, and to make personal recommendations for improvement in the future, based on these findings. The group will be analyzed based on team development and team communication, then conclusions and personal recommendations will be drawn from these analysis.
Team Development
According to Guffey, there are four phases that occur during team development. These stages are forming, storming, norming, and performing. An analysis of the team development process can help to better understand the ExCance Laboratories group and how they functioned as a team.
Forming
The forming stage is characterized by the group’s initial introduction where the members first meet each other. The ExCance Laboratories group was announced on March 21. The group consisted of Cristen Steele, Arty Hernandez, Jenae Williams, and myself, David Forbes. The majority of the forming stage occurred that same day when we introduced our selves to each other and exchanged emails and phone numbers. Since I am a shy person and have a hard time working in groups where I don’t know the members very well, the very short forming stage left me with a somewhat pessimistic outlook on the project. As meetings continued and I got to know the group members more, I eventually felt comfortable with my group. Data in Figure 1 is the information gathered in the initial forming stage.

Storming
During the storming stage, members begin to define their group roles and responsibilities along with an idea on how they wish to reach their goals. The early stages of the storming stage also began on March 21. After meeting each other, Cristen and I thought it would be a good idea to have a few ideas brainstormed for our product by our next meeting time. At our next meeting on March 23, Cristen and Arty had one idea to share, Jenae had two
