The New Macbeth
The original Macbeth is a play written by Shakespeare. Macbeth is a story about the collision of power, spirituality, conscience, and ambition. In a world filled with witchcrafts and brutality, the main character Macbeth who is a charismatic warrior and his wife Lady Macbeth face the consequence of their own desire. The play Macbeth was played at Seattle Opera on May 4th. Though the plot of the play was same as the original work of Shakespeare, there were some arrangements and extra scenes added to the play. Looking into the newly added scenes and expressions makes this modern version of Macbeth even more enjoyable.
The witches involved in the human world more actively in this play. In this play, the witches appear and contact with people more often than they do in the original work of Shakespeare. At the very beginning of the play, the witches surround Lady Macbeth standing at the center of the stage. Although this scene does not appear in the original script, it created a supernatural atmosphere and was successful to draw the audience into the world of Macbeth where the human world merges with the spirits. The scene also depicted Lady MacbethЃfs dark side of the soul and how the witches take advantage of it to allure her into her own destruction. In the scene where Lady Macbeth urges Macbeth to kill the king of England, one witch comes into the stage and hands Lady Macbeth a dagger from her behind. This was another scene where a witch who tried to twist a human being around her little fingers appeared on the stage.
The scenes where people praise humankind were also created in the play in contrast with the dark souls of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth .And Macduff was played as a hero of mankind. After MacbethЃfs troops attack the castle of Macduff and kill his children, he grieves for his loss. But then, Macduff rouses himself and his soldiers and swears a revenge on Macbeth. In this scene, the audience catches a glimpse of MacduffЃfs regal presence and brave character. At the end of story, when Macduff announces his soldiers that he has killed Macbeth and sings a song of his victory, a very bright light is thrown from Macduff. As if the light is bright and burning their bodies, the witches wriggle and escape from the light and vanish from the stage. The light represented the human kind and its holy souls, and the power of the man kind finally defeats the evil spirits who
