Most people consider fairy tales as fictional stories for children that teach good morals. Since it is for children, it should not have any scenes that contain violence, brutality and other awful things that may influence childrens minds. One reason for the difference between the two versions is the gruesomeness of the original story. The way it was presented by Hans Christian Andersen was way too morbid for children. Given that media have more impact on others, Disney had to adjust the story for the kids because it is their target audience. They added likable characters (Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle) to make the story lighter and enjoyable for them. Second is that media is a form of advertisement.
