The film thats directed by Dagur Kari is Noi, the Albino, concerning on teenage outsider who lives in an isolated community in North Iceland, who wanted to move out of the snow. This fantastic film took ten years to make with amateur actors (Rose). This film is odd by making Noi brilliant but he doesnt stay in school. This film is one of the most uneventful and bleak films but is very powerful that “seeps into our bones and make us sympathize” with Noi (Zwick). It may seem like a “contrived” art move, but it was an “uncluttered”, “eccentric” film that was unexpectedly powerful (Rose). In this film they made it possible to feel everyones emotions and see their “beaten down by life” (Burr) feeling. In the film there is a lot of drama taking place like his grandmas “methodical manner” by getting Noi up by shooting a gun out the window (Scott). Noi, the Albino started off slow and ended with a bang, therefore it was enjoyable and amusing to watch. The acting in this film was amazingly good, the visual effects were astonishing, and the overall directing was a success.
The acting done in Noi, the Albino was anything but awful. A review found on MetaCritic proclaimed, “quirky, heartfelt acting makes this a superior entry in the perennial teenage-misfit genre” (David). Tómas Lemarquis played the significant role as Noi and performed astoundingly. (Zwick). Elin Hansdottir also did a great job with her role as bookstore owner daughter and Nois girlfriend. Thomas Lemarquis gave a wonderful, “subtle performance”, creating a compelling complex character using little more than facial expression and body language (Zwick). Thomas Lemarquis would be acting normal when really hes trying to prove a point of wanting to be on the beach instead of the snow. Like the acting in the film, the visuals were commensurate.
This is one of the best visual films out there. “The Film industry in Iceland is very young, so it doesnt have conventions or restriction. Theres a nice energy” (Rose). When you watch the film you can see some flaws but its still amazing and it “gives you great picture” thats still very powerful. [Its supposed to be very plain to get that right image to understand what the logic of the film is about]. “Noi himself who sticks in the mind: a pale, thin, bald-headed enigma, who could be an idiot or a genius” (Rose) is image to this film to make you wonder about many things. The sound and the picture are very slow to make you understand it better. Its one of the best visual films out there because the director is very talented.
This film is very unique by how its in an unpopulated place thats pretty much white hell. “The film is so recessive that at times it threatens to disappear into itself but director Kari saves it with delicious
