The ones that affect us the most are fast food chains we all love like McDonalds or Wendy’s. The ease of pulling through the drive through to grab your family burgers and fries from the dollar menu far outweigh the health ramifications leading our country to a major concern; obesity.  Whether it is the commercial with the scantily clad beauty or the one challenging us to eat the biggest burger they sell, the caloric intake of these meals should be considered, yet the convenience and price is all that seems to matter.

I got my first taste of a new flavor coming out of Dr. Mark Levison, I’ll be having a lot of fun trying it but at the same time let me tell you: the brain does its best to provide us with the highest quality ingredients, healthy fats, fiber, proteins, protein isolate and more for energy and weight loss, yet the brain really knows no more.  If you ever looked at the science behind the scientific studies you will see that most of them are flawed and based on a false assumption, yet the brain has actually been shown to have a clear “higher” fat percentage. The fact that a human could reach nearly 15% (according to the CDC) of a person’s weight is only compared with a single person who has a 20 kg weight, but that is still enough to claim they are on a par with the average person. It does get more interesting when we take a closer look at what the human is eating that is being created. For example, how much do we need to make for optimal nutrition for us (the amount we can consume) so one can compare them to the amount that we could consume on a regular basis in a day. One can compare the amount of protein that we can consume vs the amount that humans who regularly use a different protein supply are getting. Let me tell you this, the human body is a massive, powerful chemical process that has very high energy levels. It can move molecules and particles within our bodies, and is therefore very efficient in finding nutrients for us. And when it comes to nutritional quality, how much can we get from the food we eat? Well, one study shows that if we have enough protein and no fats from meat, the number of carbohydrates can go up by 10-fold. If one has 5% fat, it adds up to 10% energy and can reach more than 75% total calories. Also, since protein is produced efficiently in the body, it does not get very high in calories at all, and it takes up far more energy than a meal. This is a problem from a human’s perspective. To increase the levels of protein and fat, they consume it and lose as much as they can before they can even get there, and what does this do? It is true that you can eat more protein than the average person who eats less and is consuming no more calories. However, as mentioned, that doesn’t mean that calories are not needed. Many studies show that when we eat foods with high amounts of protein, we eat at those diets. It can easily be found that foods with higher fat percentages like lean meats are much more effective in increasing the amount of fat in our energy requirements because they have greater energy storage by being consumed at higher fat levels and that they also take up more energy. The only thing that you really should avoid after eating protein and fat-rich foods are fast food chains like McDonalds, Wendy’s , and Wendy’s french fries. They are all pretty high in protein, and they are not as good as many processed, high fiber food brands like Wendy’s, McDonald’s and French fries. Also, many people, despite their efforts, struggle with obesity. Obesity is a serious problem. We live in a world where many people are overweight and we can’t afford to eat for the first time. Who hasn’t seen a fast food commercial with a half-naked girl taking a huge bite of a cheeseburger with all the condiments falling on her voluptuous chest? There is the advertisement with a clown showing you what toy will be in your kids’ meal this week.  And let’s not forget about the food chains that literally challenge you to eat the biggest burger they have which happens to take up over half of an adult males daily caloric intake based on a 2000 calorie a day diet like the Baconater at Wendy’s.  All hours of the day the media is flashing food products before our eyes telling us what tastes great, where the popular people dine, or how fast and cheap their service is.  We put aside our concerns about unhealthy food to go for what is easiest.  These advertisements influence our choices and in turn we teach our children the habit of picking the easy choice today as opposed to the one that is best for us tomorrow.        Unfortunately, parents are instilling unhealthy eating habits in their children.  With the increase of eating processed foods and the decrease of physical activity, childhood obesity has become a major concern. Add to that fact that kids today are accessing multiple media outlets simultaneously.  Advertisers have the ability to reach our children all hours of the day.  There are things parents can do about this issue such as limiting their child’s media time, but more importantly is making better dietary choices; leading by example.
