Medicare is a federal program that provides health coverage to about 50 million
Americans. People pay Medicare throughout their working lives and are generally
eligible when they turn 65. Medicare covers most health care services, but does not
cover long-term services such as nursing home care. It it supported among seniors and
the general public; yet, the affordability of health and long-term care causes many
problems among the lower class.
Some action has been taken today to improve such disadvantages. The discount
card program helps seniors save a significant amount of money on prescription drug
purchases. The elderly are said to stay healthier because of greater access to health
screenings and preventive care. As a final statement, responsible health care providers
and organizations are working together to help Medicare patients learn how to gain
access to these benefits.
There are some disadvantages that are being covered up and remain unimproved.
At the beginning of each year, Medicare is liable to change what services it can
apply to its patients. It can decide to end coverage at any time if it decides to
stop providing benefits to people in a particular service area.
Medicare may also begin to charge higher copayments for certain services such
as inpatient hospital stays and outpatient services.
