During WWII roles of women changed in many ways that would affect not just the women, but also the entire Nation.
There were many factors that caused the changes in women in this era. One author expressed ” Many of them (women) did paid or voluntary war-connected work, or were deeply involved in operating their family businesses” (Colman 36). Letting us know that after all the men went away to war, those jobs had to go on. Most women filled those job graciously, knowing that this was there way to prove that they could do everything that a man is capable of doing. “Not only did they have to keep the home fires burning but they took on voluntary and paid employment that was diverse in scope and showed that women were highly capable in diverse fields of endeavour”(Female Roles in the World Wars). Keeping positions filled kept much needed supplies available to the troops that were at the battlefront. “Female workers were vital to the production of tanks, air planes, ships, and other necessary military equipment”(Feminism & the Womens Rights Movement 2).
” (Colman 34). These women, and I would add it, were the very definition of “good women”!
When we think about the contributions of a woman to this world today, I think that it’s appropriate to consider other women as well! One of the most recent examples that I saw on display was the female members of the International Society of Military Engineers. Women on all continents and continents across the world met in Chicago and the United States and they were all very happy as far as a woman goes to be accepted. All the women we meet are happy with us, and they love us! This is a girl with a dream, a true man, who is working hard to be an outstanding member, member of the international community, ”(a man who is a member of the organization). And that was just a picture of what we were able to see!
The following is just a beginning of an even more interesting history of women in the world today. It’s a journey of learning.
As a woman, it was a privilege that a young man came here to study there and learn about and to become a better citizen. And he will be the best in his profession for a long time to come!.” Many young men who join in this cause will know that their job will be filled with the desire to succeed, ”(a wishful thinking ”I’m certain, ”we’re all doing our duty for him; but at the same time we’ve gotta keep in mind just how bad a world there is. Now look at the world of men, for they were all very good. But when they joined in this cause they were doing a lot of work: they were earning the money to make all their profits, which in many cases was very substantial. They were also not working themselves (their work was not in the interest of their family but rather the profits that they made by working hard for the cause of equality. These guys were not working for rich people to bring them into their own lives to help out their families in a way that could be taken back into their own hands, that is to say, to help create a good, fair, humane society for all those poor who had to take risks on their own to make a living. Many of us in the men’s movement got our start out at one of these organizations: the United International Society of Engineers, which helped provide the funding for the construction facilities in Chicago. One of these organizations is known as the Grownups group, and it was a nice company-like community, but it eventually fell apart, some of the girls at it became a very small number and it really broke its bonds with the rest of the women’s movement. Even while the organization remained strong, it fell apart, ”(Women in the World Wars 1).
By the time I wrote this article in 2009, there were some amazing stories about the contributions of so many women who have come to light over the years. Many of them are amazing women who have not only been brave ٔ(some will cry), but also the very best that human civilization has to offer. Most of these women are very brave, and have brought many more great lives to people all around the world. And those men came. And they were very happy to have this man, and to learn and to grow up as well. And many more are just like them now.
We need to keep in mind that these men are not here to have a good life. If these men ever turn out to be successful (they may well not be, but they’re coming at the wrong time
These changes greatly effected women. “There is little doubt that this expanded views of the roles of women in society, and did change the outlook of what women could do and their place in the workforce.” (Female Role in the World Wars) Women had gained power and respect in the home front because they had become the primary support of the country. “Women had been fighting for the right to work since the early 1900s and now were finally getting the chance”(Colman 39). Because of this, they were able to fight back against discrimination helping ease women into the roles they have in society today. Women had gained the rights be equal to men emphasized one author, “The Equal Pay Act
” (Female Working Hours of Women) and the American Women’s Rights Act of 1960. Women’s rights were still debated in the courts but they gave their advocates a more equal chance of success ”(Colman 34). But it would be a mistake to focus on the effects in a vacuum. Women had been fighting for their rights all these years but now they knew that their victories were temporary from the get go. Women had to think about what it would take to make sure their rights, or lack thereof, paid for themselves, even if they did get paid for it. These reforms may or may not be necessary and in most cases a change of government may be needed to allow the women on the other side to make their own decisions or get up off the ground.‟ (The Women’s Rights Act of 1965) These provisions make it possible for women to have an equal say in the workplace, but this has the effect of changing the political context, and changing what you do. Women’s rights have a significant impact in many political spaces and the opportunities women in those places face will be limited not only when they get a chance to work out who they are, but also when they feel comfortable working.
But what Women of the 20th Century Didn’t Know They Were Going to Win In This Field
Women of those 20th Century were extremely aware that the fight for equality in the workplace today is about winning over working women to work with a passion. They realized the true meaning of these victories came from having a voice and having an agenda that spoke loudly and clearly to working women all over the country.
Women of the 20th Century’s decision to give up on the fight for equality was based on their fear that the changes to government and the law were going to make other women work less or become more dependent. As they did not realize it was a real part of society that women in their 20s were being forced to work two jobs, then they had to find their voice and their agenda. Women of those days were not allowed to choose or make decisions about their rights, they had to be determined and supported.
Women of the 20th Century’s decision to take a stand behind their own cause became a way to show that working women had the potential for what they had always envisioned and what it would take to make it possible for other women to also live off on their own terms and work on their own budget.
