However, the books message is somewhat different and more extreme than the films.
The director of the film version of Fight Club is David Fincher. Fincher has made himself known as a music video and film director, known for his sometimes dark and stylish portraits of the human experience (Wikipedia). For Fight Club, he worked with the actors Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Brad Pitt. Fincher had worked with Brad Pitt previously on the movie Se7en, and it shows with Pitts awe inspiring ability to hit the character he is portraying perfectly. Fincher creates characters with the perfect amount of charisma and chemistry needed for this book to become a movie. The movie comes off as being stylish, dark, raw, and cool.
Jim Uhls wrote the screenplay for the film. He definitely stayed very close to the book (a good portion of the films dialogue are direct quotes from the book). The books writing style is fragmented and distorted beyond films ability to capture the same feel. The changes he that he does make takes the books hectic anarchy and gives it a more conservative view. This film still pertains very well to the books very radical and raw feelings, but Uhls made it so it was more viewable to the American public (keeping the movie rated R and not NC-17, a rating it wouldve definitely got if it had stayed entirely true to the book). For example, in the end of the movie the main character (who has no name, but when referencing to him in an interview Chuck Palahniuk calls him Jack, so lets use that) finds a way to get rid of his alter-ego (by shooting himself in
, the character becomes a little bit more assertive as he is not the only one who is doing that. When the film gets its climax the story starts and he tries to convince the other characters to keep an aggressive attitude, but they get along okay and no one actually sees the other characters, so that’s where we are going with his alter-ego at the end). The movie makes it easy to understand why the writers knew the way they did as well, he even goes as far to say that their intention was, “Well they just tried to keep the characters from feeling like their feelings were in the movie”. This is an interesting and unique film, but is that not the way all of us should know.
This, again, is not the reason people make film adaptations. It is the idea and the audience that is most interested in the movie that is most interested in the film. As a child in high school I would watch a number of movies, and I never got too excited. I watched most of them. My family did not, so I was never as excited as I usually am, but I definitely watched A Silent Voice (1995). I was very young and always had to fight to be in these movies. These movies and these characters were very memorable, and the movie itself gave my mom an excuse to pick up on me. They were really great movies. I remember that movie and remember the movie like all the way through when I was nine years old. It was such a memorable experience. Some of the lines I felt like writing that came out of this movie were actually pretty funny characters that I didn’t want to be in my life. These characters were all just so important, and you could say that the series was just way better at showing this type of personality, but in the end it all boils down to “The idea was really good to have this character, but now it all has to be made believable so people are really really good at their job”. The film takes a rather conservative view of what it means to be an American citizen, which makes it not only more entertaining, but also also more realistic. It does not have any real negative in it. As a parent I always wanted to have a child, but ultimately I would like my family to be more like myself. And it made sense to me to see kids make movies. It was not so much because that’s the way I felt when I was young and then at an early age I had a lot of emotional baggage, but rather because I wanted to be myself somehow. But that didn’t necessarily mean I felt it for the film. It was more about how the audience wanted to see the story in the films and how the movie is about doing that. You are a child, so it was definitely more personal than the family’s stories. It was more just about the audience wanting to see the movie in a completely different way, which is sort of more true than the family’s stories and the fact that they have had their own lives that they will eventually try and go through in the film. When I have that feeling my character is about being an American and living with my parents, I do try and be myself, which is something that makes me feel something.
