This April, the film Titanic was re-released, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Since I am a great fan of Titanic, I ran to the movie theater 8 times to see the 3d and 4d version of the film. I spent a fortune but I do not regret watching it several times. I like Titanic because it is based on reality and enables me to seek the past.

First of all, Titanic is fact-based movie. So, of course, the main story line -the sinking- reframes what actually happened to the ship Titanic in 1912, April 14th. The director, James Cameron, was attentive to every minute detail. He cared about not only the main event, but also the characters to be realistic. Except the main characters, almost all appearing on the screen are the real people who were boarding on Titanic in 1912. The captain (Smith), chairman of White Star Line (Ismay), shipbuilder (Andrews), musicians (Hartley Band), sailors (Murdoch, Lightoller, Lowe, Moody, and so on), passengers (Margaret Brown, Straus, Guggenheim, John Jacob Astor IV, Countess of Rothes, and so on), and even the leading fireman are based on reality. Moreover, if you look up the pictures of the ship, you will find out the structure of the ship is very much similar to what is shown in the film.

Second, Titanic allows me to experience the time before my birth. Titanic takes place in 1910s and at that time, car, tobacco, and steel industry led the world. Cars are frequently seen in Titanic. At the beginning of the film, Titanic shows a scene loading cars on the ship. Also, Rose -the main character- makes her entrance by getting off the car. Cigar appears as much as the main characters. It is shown in almost every scene. Likewise, steel is mentioned in a great deal. A lot of passengers in the 1st class run steel business. Roses fiancé, Cal, is also a steel tycoon. Furthermore, Titanic brings out what people in the 1910s had in mind. In the 1910s industrial growth was remarkable. As a result, people had blind faith in science. Even when the passengers knew the ship was hit by the iceberg, they did not think it was serious. Yet, some refused to get on the lifeboat, believing the ship will be safer. But as time passes, passengers notice that Titanic will sink. At the moment, people show the manner of letting women and children first to get on the boat. Scientism and Birkenhead Drill is well presented in the movie.

For these reasons, I enjoy watching Titanic. Although, Titanic stopped running in the theater, I frequently spend my free time watching it again at home. Some of my friends ask me if I dont get sick of it. But whenever I watch Titanic, it takes on a whole new meaning. Titanic is loved by people worldwide and I believe it is worth being loved.
