These processes include a neutralization reaction (NaOH+HCl→NaCl+H2O), creating solutions by adding NH4Cl and CaCl2 to distilled water, and heating up Sn metal and placing it into distilled water.Materials: Labquest MiniComputerTemperature ProbeCoffee Cup calorimeter100 mL Beaker50.0 mL Graduated cylinder400 mL Beaker, with boiling chipsLarge test tubeHot plateTest tube holderProcedure:Part ACalorimeter was set up in 400 mL beaker. 49.9 mL of 1 M NaOH were measured out using a graduated cylinder. Solution was added to calorimeter52.0 mL of 1.1 M  HCL were measured using a graduated cylinder and it was place in a 100 mL beakerThe Labquest Mini was set up according to the directions given. Logger Pro was set up according to the directions given.Temperature probe was inserted through the holes of the stopper and the insulating cover. Tip of probe was kept just before bottom of cupStart button was pressed, 15 seconds passed before the reactants were mixed. The HCL was added to the solution with the temp. probe still in contact with the NaOH solution. The cover was immediately secured and the the calorimeter was swirled for 30 seconds to allow to for the solutions to better mix After the time was up, the data (final temperature, Tfinal) was collected.The solution was poured down the sink and the calorimeter was cleaned using tapwater and distilled water.Part B2.005 g of NH4Cl and 50.1 mL of water were measured out. Recorded the exact measurement of NH4Cl and distilled water. Placed the distilled water into the calorimeter and recorded initial temperature the same way it was done in Part A (Record the temperature to 3 decimal places).The Labquest was set up to take a 180 second measurement with 3 seconds in between samples.  The sample was begun and the NH4Cl was added into calorimeter. Placed the lid and started to stir for 1 minute while keeping the temperature probe 3 cm from the bottom.Scanned the temperature curve that appeared at the end and the final temp was recorded. The solution was disposed of down the sink and the calorimeter was cleaned with tap water and distilled water.The steps were then repeated with CaCl2.Part CA 400 mL beaker was filled with tap water and 12 boiling chips were added. The beaker was placed on a hot plate and brought to a boil. 20.002 g of Sn were measured. Then, 50.0 mL of DI water were measured. Distilled water was placed in calorimeter.The Sn was put into a large test tune inside the boiling water and the temperature of the Sn was raised to that of the water in the beaker. After the temperatures were the same, the test tube was taken out of the boiling water and put into a test tube rack. Put the temperature probe into the test tube in contact with the metal and found the initial temperature of the metal.The temperature probe was cooled by placing it in cold water, and the initial temperature of the water in the calorimeter was taken. The Labquest was set up to take a 180 second measurement with 3 seconds in between samples. Made sure the probe was in contact with the reservoir with the tip at least 3 cm from the bottom.Started the sample and quickly poured the Sn out of the test tube into the calorimeter.
