Do you ever wander why grandparents say yes and parents say no? Other than the conclusion that parents are pure evil there is actually a more logical explanation. Parents are at a different point in their financial lives than grandparents are. When you compare the financial obligations of grandparents with the financial obligations of parents you quickly discover that grandparents have more available cash.
I quickly realized that parents have many bills that need to be paid on a monthly basis. They have to make a house payment, car payments, and usually credit card payments. Parents may also have fuel payments for heating their homes due to the high fuel prices.
Parents also have other monthly obligations such as electric, phone, and auto insurance bills. Then there are the necessities such as groceries, gas for cars, and medicine. All these monthly payments quickly add up and the income of the parents is quickly gone. The only income a parent has is from their job. There is little to no money left at the end of the month for any extras that a teenager may want or need.
On the other hand grandparents no longer have house payment or car payments and will pay off their credit cards each month. Grandparents still have the monthly obligations such as electric, phone, and auto insurance bills. Grandparents also still pay for necessities such as groceries, gas for cars, and medicine. A grandparents income includes their pensions, and Social Security. Due to these facts, grandparents have disposable money and are willing to by the extras teenagers request.
Due to these facts it easy to understand the saying, “grandparents were made to spoil their grandchildren.”
