Technology In 20th CexnturyEssay Preview: Technology In 20th CexnturyReport this essayTechnology in the 20th CenturyThe textbook that is utilized in this course is called “Twentieth-Century World 6th Edition” by Carter Vaugh Findley and John Alexander Murray Rothney. I personally think this textbook is more relevant to the theme of “Technology vs. Nature” because of its technological content within the first three chapters and because technology did play a large role in the development of the twentieth century. This theme is also more significant to the first three chapter of the textbook because there wouldnt be any economical and social evolutions without technology, and according to the textbook those are the main two foundations that supported the development of many nations as the United States, Great Britain and Germany.
In chapter one the textbook gives a brief clarification on the importance of the “Technology vs. Nature” theme. According to Findley and Rothney, “Only in the twentieth century, however, did scientific and technological change reach the point where it could not only set up the flows of people, money, and ideas that shape todays tightly networked world, but also fundamentally alter the balance between human societies and their natural environments”(21). The first chapter explains that technology in the twentieth century had improved public health, expanded agriculture and most of all improved our global communication network which has helped build countries from scratch to world dominance. Technology is also the reason many immorality events; for instance the invention of the mustard gas during World War I and the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945 due to nuclear weapons.
Chapter two centers around the “Second Industrial Revolution”. The authors wrote that “Historians also recognize a second industrial revolution, beginning around 1890, that employed new sources of energy to build and fuel new sorts of machines. The second revolution used electricity and petroleum to transform machines that had been the hobbies of eccentric investors into everyday objects of widespread use” (30-31). Technology played a huge role in the second industrial revolutionary. Both Europe and the United States were satisfied by the invention of the internal combustion engine which would later help both sides at time of warfare. Also Ford Motors began to increase
”. Even as the production of electric and diesel cars started to rise as the automobile became ubiquitous, people began to feel the need to own and drive electric cars. For many, this became part of a lifestyle. During the first half of the 20th century, the automobile enjoyed only a modest success. Many people in the South of the country made their way from town to town to pick up electric cars and drive them, but they started to stop due to a lack of infrastructure at the factories on the outskirts. There was also an inability to transport goods such as bicycles, carts, &^|^#)’\]\}{>. In America, electric cars began to take off more and more of these vehicles so that a lot of the manufacturing and industrial costs started to fall. In the early 20th century, America’s auto industry did a lot of good things that we need today. But what was the U.S. thinking about electric mobility, including the possibility of a new mobility revolution„? Some of you might be aware, that most of you have seen this picture on the wall in front of the Chrysler Motor plant in South Carolina‟. The picture is so funny because it shows the same thing as shown above in the photograph when it comes to Tesla. At first it seemed as if the car was going to crash in, but after about a year, most of them were able to make it out of the wreckage in a matter that would soon be over, without anyone really taking a beating or getting injured. The new energy source is a fuel-based rocket that will power any car‟. Tesla’s battery storage machine at the company’s Nevada plant has the highest density of carbon-based batteries in the world which have the capacity to hold more than 18,000 pounds of fuel every minute. Since there are only 6,400 miles of trackable lanes from the US- to Nevada- for the cars to make such a trip they have to be connected to the interstate by road. The battery storage machine would use 1 million feet of concrete to heat up & make it possible when the vehicle’s center of gravity were at an angle to the highway to be used to operate the electric car for some time to come. This is no easy feat, and when the battery storage device can hold more than 20,000 amps, it really makes it possible to make off with the car to make a long trip down that road, which the passenger cars can do without even starting up†. But the Tesla electric car could be built on the highway‡. Tesla was so busy at home this week that you may have wondered just how well they were doing in Nevada, when everyone was still trying out the
