The Best Things in Life by Peter Kreeft
The book “The Best Things in Life” by Peter Kreeft is a fictional story. In this story a philosopher named Socrates has discussion talking about what life, thought and education is about. Socrates thoughtfully connect his knowledgeable method of questioning with people kindness, comedy but also having intentions to prove values like success, power and pleasure is a major key in this story. Socrates teaches the method of philosophy and deep logic of common sense to two people. He leaves them wiser, able to recognize what the best things in life actually are, and wealthier, but the story gives us a different perspective and open our mind up to things that wasn’t noticeable before.
In the book, Socrates talks about lessons that will help through life. The first chapter is where lesson one is and the lesson he teaches us is questioning. You should ask questions to find out things because it helps you not be ignorant. There are many questions that people don’t know the answer to and people isn’t not going to understand lesson one in one day it can take up to a lifetime to really know the answer. Lesson two is answers not all answers are going to be straight forward, and not all answers are gong to be right or wrong it’s all about perspective. The answer to these questions is based on what you want to believe is true. Asking and answering questions would strengthen the peoples critical thinking and make it easier to outline ideas and basic beliefs. In the chapter Peter took what Socrates was getting at into consideration but didn’t really want to believe what Socrates was saying was true because it something new it made him realize that everything he was taught and thought was right is only one perception of things.
In the chapters one and two Socrates discusses the purpose of education to Peter, which he came across him while studying and began asking him questions. While peter was studying Socrates asked him questions What is Peter doing, and why? Why bother with college? Why a career? Why does he want to send his kids to college? What is important in life? There are many purposes of education one is having knowledge on something, another one is that in some peoples’ perspective you need an education to be successful in life. Socrates explains how education can benefit a good career in life and there’s always more than one career. There are many choices in majors, but it is better for you have a full understanding of the major you choose and have a love for the major. Without a full understanding you would not really know what is going on what is going on and it makes college harder. An example in the book, Peter first talked about choosing technology then changed his mind to business because it would be closer to his home and it would make life easier than to travel far.  In other words, this means that Peter didn’t really have a full understanding of business, only besides the fact that it would benefit
