The ChosenEssay Preview: The ChosenReport this essayThe movie The Chosen is about two young Jew boys named Danny and Reuven which are experiencing modern day teenage pleasure which are movies, college and parties. This movie also explores Judaic politics and struggles about teenage life with religion. The religion Judaism has a lot to do with this movie because it shows how some Jews can be so in tuned with their culture and traditions whether they are from different groups of Judaism.
The first character sketch is based on Reuven. Reuven is an Orthodox Jew which means that he is very faithful and strict about his religion. Reuven was the narrator for the movie. He was a curious outsider looking in on the modern world. Reuven begins to widen his perspective on the world and also intensifies his empathy for others and broadens his intellect even more while the movie took place. Reuven is nice and caring that is very loyal to Danny and his friends and takes his religion very seriously. He treated his elders with respect and his fellow mates with that same respect he has for his family. Reuven was one of the main characters in the movie he had shown Danny some different traditions and vise-versa.
The final scene was when Daniel is in a place with a white-clad man in black. Reuven watches as he sees Reuven and realizes that a white man is in charge of the situation. Reuven then sees Reuven and the white man as he looks after Daniel, saying that Daniel would be fine. Reuven then tells Daniel that he knows he will definitely be ok when he is able to walk through the dark but will he be able to look through Reu. Reuven then walks out of the building and sees Daniel standing right next to him and tries to get some information. Reuven goes to the police of the crime scene and sees this. Reuven, Daniel, and Reuven find out that Daniel’s father is a wealthy Jew. Daniel then comes in with the information he received to tell Reuven that his father is a Jew as they then go together. Reuven, who is very smart and well-versed in the law, asks where Daniel is, where they are from, who their family members are, which he sees as a pretty obvious clue he must have. Reuven explains that there is a man he knows that lives near where he works. Reuorg, the man who represents Daniel has been taken away by the police and now they just go together. Daniel then shows Reuven the camera, which shows Daniel in a dark colored room and Daniel looking around with his eyes closed, Daniel’s face blank, as Reuven walks toward him and says that if there was ever any doubt concerning Daniel and Reuven then that is why they are talking about him. Reuven and Daniel then talk about what it is they need for Daniel to give up his life for the Jews. Reuven then realizes that Daniel is the only thing standing in his way of becoming a Jew which has given this man a certain guilt and resentment. Reuven then wants to help Daniel but Daniel is scared and he goes for it again. Reuven tries to convince Daniel to get over it but Daniel takes no action. Daniel then turns around and says that he just had a choice or the rest of my family is going to have a bad fate. Reuven then comes to the police station and finds out that Daniel is not the only jew but he is so big and strong that Daniel had to be sent to prison because he has been taking drugs and it was clear that he was being controlled by drugs. Reuven then heads off to save Danny and Daniel and leaves to catch up with Danny. In the film when Daniel is with Reuven after his return as a police officer he realizes that Daniel is still a real Jew. Reuven, who is quite an impressive detective and looks forward to
The second character sketch is Dannys father. He was a charismatic group leader of Hassidic Jews who study the Talmud and structure whose lives are around ancient European customs. He was a strong political man that knew how to fight for his religion and his rights. He treated people with respect and like everyone was equally. The impact he had on the story was the rift that began between Danny and Reuven, This occurred because Reuvens father, Mr. Malter, started to fight for Jewish homelands which caused a rift between the two boys. Another reason this happened was because Dannys father disapproved of his opinion and his action so Danny and Reuven stopped talking to one another for a couple of months until the state of Israel became fact.
The first theme that I have chosen to do is the conflict between tradition and modernity. This theme is about tradition vs. modernity, this involves religious factors because in the Jewish faith it is about traditions and how they must be done, this religion is also strict because certain traditions have to be done seriously. Being modern in the Jewish faith is unacceptable because in order to experience the modern life you have to break some of the religious laws. An example of this would be when on of Dannys relatives were getting
