Misfortune, unbelief, and panic filled my mind as I lie on the steering wheel, sandwiched between the hot, slick metal truck. My lungs felt compressed, as if air couldn’t pass into nor escape them. It did not hurt, my body was numb. My mind was buzzing. What had happened? In the country mile, on that unholy road, I could see cars driving by completely oblivious to what had just happened. The only thing that I could do was rest. Rest until someone could help me.

The annoying sound of my alarm clock had awakened me as I slowly crept out of bed. It was the beginning of another normal day, or so I thought. I had just got done getting ready when my sister started contemplating on what to wear; this took awhile, not a surprise, so we were running late. We sprang into the inside of my grey Nissan Altima, and made our way to school.

With music blaring, it was yet another common ride to school with my sister.  As a result of us already being late I dropped her off at the front of the building so that she could make her way to class while I found a place to park. I quickly found a place to park and scrambled to my first class of the day, only to realize I had left my backpack with all of my important school work in it on the dining room table. “How could I have forgotten something that important,” I thought. Frustrated, I then told my friend Timothy I had to go get it and he tried to encourage me to not go. He said that it wasn’t that important but I didn’t listen. I knew that without my binder I would receive a zero as a homework grade and for me that wasn’t acceptable! So I left the class room and darted off to my car as fast as I could.

As I had started down the second road to my destination, I was going fast, too fast. The road was about two miles long and full of small hills. As I had just broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the median was an enormous truck coming right toward me. I was terrified so with barely any thought, my instinct was to slam on the brakes and jerk the steering wheel to the right. The car drifted to the right, and to the left. Each time I could sense the car gripping the black pavement. I could feel my body jolt with occasional movements of the car. The car had wandered to the left for the last time. With my eyes fixed shut, I could feel my body roaming around the front seat of my car. I just knew that was the last straw for me, I thought I was going to die.

I opened my eyes to notice the black road in the distance ahead of me. I could feel the cold air surrounding my body. For a second, I thought it was just one horrible dream; I could only have wished anyway. I could barely move and I couldn’t fully comprehend why. It all had happened so quickly. I just sat there looking around until my mind could fathom what had just happened. I was stuck between my car door and the hood of the truck. The car cracked with every movement
