Colloquium Reflection #2
In the first colloquium which was held on September 6, 2017 our second session taught myself and my fellow peers about Diversity. NCBI stands for the National Coalition Building Institute and it was developed by Cherie R. Brown. To find out more about this program one can simply visit NCBI.org.
Diversity is defined as the state of being different or; variety or multiformity. Some primary diversity dimensions are race, ethnicity, gender, language, age, social class, disability, immigrant status and religion. This topic is important for a first year student to know and understand because we’re on a campus which has over 10,000 students whom all come from different backgrounds, cities and states, for example: moving into an dormitory residence hall. This year is the first year that I’ve never had to share anything, even though I have older siblings. Growing up I had my own everything, my own bedroom
