Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
Christopher Francis Ocean or more popularly known by his stage name as “Frank Ocean” is an R&B singer-songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is on the up and coming in the R&B section of pop music. After his first debut album “Nostalgia/Ultra” Frank Ocean has been in collaborations with Kanye West and Jay-z on the album “Watch The Throne” and from then he has been seen on the rise in the music industry winning several Grammys. “Channel Orange” is his sophomore LP which dropped in July of 2012. This album has great production, catchy tunes, and great vocals done by Frank Ocean himself. After listening to his album roughly around seventy-four times I came to realize the true artistic fashion he brings to his music and how he adds the effect of building a different state of mind in every song. For example in one song “Super Rich Kids” it talks about the second hand problems of a neglected spoiled teenager and all of a sudden the song transfers to another song called “Pilot Jones” about a relationship based upon a alcoholic girlfriend and her dependent boyfriend. This album brings out many situations usually around the basis of 21st century problems. Today Frank Ocean is very large when comes to his type of music and coming from me, personally I like to compare to older artists like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. If I were to rate this album from a scale of 1 being the lowest and 13 being the highest I would have to rate it 8.73 out of 13. Its a great contemporary R&B album that should be heard by anyone who enjoys either “Chuck Berry” or even “Al Green”. Frank Ocean is definitely one artist to sure look for in future contemporary R&B music.
